Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick worked together to create Aeron. With its large dimensions, ventilation, support of natural human seating movements and the environmentally friendly design, Aeron challenged almost all conventions in the world of office chairs. It was not upholstered. It had no cushions. And with their philosophy on what they referred to as 'cross-performance' work - a mix of intensive tasks and relaxed interaction - the designers were far ahead of today's work environment with its blend of technological and social components. They started by analysing what functions a chair fulfils for its user. They did this by interviewing people who spend much time in chairs: elderly people in nursing homes. When Stumpf and Chadwick applied this knowledge to office chairs, they started an ergonomic revolution.

"I work best when I'm pushed to the edge. When I'm at the point where my pride is subdued, where I'm innocent again." - Bill Stumpf
